Highland Park Gets Fresh

The once dilapidated Albertson’s (which was the really dilapidated Lucky before that) is well on it’s way to becoming something better. We here at the BLVD are quite excited to see “fresh&easy” moving in and brightening up the spot. With it’s vibrant (but strangely not-too-obnoxious) colors and modern design, fresh&easy definitely puts a new spin on the neighborhood. Even better, it’s hailed as a competitor to Whole Foods. This is good because one, the holier/more organic-than-thou attitude of Whole Foods needs a little competition, and two, because NELA needs some organic love, even if it is British (oh yeah, fresh&easy is run by Britain’s Tesco, by the way). So bring on the healthy, fresh&easy, and who knows, come November maybe all Highland Park will be feasting on Tofurkey and organic veggies.

I am so happy to see Fresh&Easy coming to the York Blvd area. We are thinking of moving into that area and the more “organic mentality” coming in, the better. Any news about a “Green” dry cleaners moving in? Good to see a web site about York. It appears to be up and coming! Thanks!

I’ve read some pretty evil things about Tesco, too, though, likening them to Britain’s version of Wal-Mart. Not so sure that I’d be jumping onto the “fresh&easy” bandwagon right away, at least not without doing some reading first.

Ok, so not to be a downer or anything. But isnt’ this store in an area considered to be Glassel Park?

You caught us Roy! We were indeed stepping out of HP for Fresh&Easy. Nevertheless, we’re hoping it’s a good thing all around–including Highland Park. Besides, the whole area is growing so fast we hope to be able to cover more than just Highland Park.
Thanks for the watchful eye, though!

don’t go so fast on the organic stuff. Tesco is infamous for selling pesticide covered fruit and veg as ‘organic.’

Absolutely, it’s a good thing to have more options. I’m so glad I live in a world where we have choices, although it’s obvious that some of the commenters on your site don’t appreciate it much (shimpiphany and Scott P.).
For now, I’ll jump into my Hummer and head down to Vons. I hope I pass Scott or shimp on the way there.
