As is my wont, I spent this Sunday afternoon driving around the neighborhood looking for a place to drink a cup of non-Swork (too crowded and I kid you not, every single coffee drink I have consumed there has given me the worst stomach/head ache; maybe it's just me) non-Starbucks joe, read a book, write, and be surrounded by a good mix of equally laid-back people. After driving past Verdugo Bagels (a man seemed to be picking up a large silver pot from the otherwise closed place and putting it in his car, after which the woman watching me watching them locked the front door) I drove down York and entered La Casa Blue for the first time. Loved it. It is a great place to relax, people-watch, and read and write, all of which I did, while simultaneously watching the rain pour outside and admiring the array of artwork on the wall. I talked to one of the co-owners, Miguel, who was super-friendly and answered my many questions, even taking me out back to show me the surprising patio and the recent sinkhole that'd appeared therin. I will certainly return to Casa Blue, and though I wish I could keep this place a secret, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a local place to hang out, especially on a late Fri. or Sat. night when you want to be cooped up somewhere other than your apt. and that isn't a bar (though I'm looking forward to sampling their beer/wine selection). Gotta say, too, that I am loving your site! I tend to be a homebody, so after living in Eagle Rock almost 2 years (!) I was finally inspired to venture into trying out new places, prompted in part by your site and its reviews. So thanks and keep the NELA love comin'.

Had my first La Casa Blue experience about a week ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. This, along with countless other mom-and-pop restaurants, wonderful galleries, and beautiful homes, are reasons why my wife and I are hoping to move into Highland Park in the near future. Well worth the stop. And don't forgot Galco's just down the street for lunch and a couple of bottles of brew to take home.
