I'm so glad I found this site. I love HIghland Park. It seems like one of the last places in Los Angeles where you can find real diversity. I'm originally from Pomona and I get a very similar vibe, and that's a good thing!

The comment regarding "everyone is trying to make it" reall hit the nail on the head!
This community is made up of 99% working folk and the other remaining 1% being bums, winos and gangbangers/taggers.

I have been here all of my 48 years, seen a lot of local folk come and go, but the latest "upswing" seems to be more deep rooted and hopefully the trend towards improvment and investment will continue to benifit the community as a whole!

Love your new site! Visit the one I do for the Neighborhood Council (you should run for it someday - they could use your enthusiasm)....I've tried to put all kinds of stuff - links, pictures, downloadable documents, anything about Highland Park in one place. There's still more to go, but only so much time -- I hope you'll visit, register, log in and explore. http://historichighlandpark.org

Highland Park still has a chance to evolve organically with its growth. Our diversity is strong and we have so many working people at so many income levels. We have staying power and I think people here want our community to come out on top. We look around at other towns, like Silverlake, Echo Park , and Eagle Rock and we want our own identity. It is a beautiful place to live and I do appreciate its proximity to downtown, Hollywood , Pasadena and so many others. But, we are evolving and I want us to succeed.

Good post! There is no question in my mind that Highland Park is a neighborhood on the upswing. I just hope that it continues to be a gradual process... part of the charm of this place is the level of diversity.

Oh yeah! Great site. Don't forget about us up on the hill too. Plenty of good affordable options. Just don't build on empty land!!
