Highland Park Townhall 7/31 (Highland Park Transit Village Anyone?)

Ξ July 30th, 2008 | → | ∇ 90042, Coming Soon, Highland Park |

Councilman Reyes will be on hand to do a Q&A with residents on “Highland Park Projects”, among which the proposed Highland Park Transit Village will have to feature prominently.  The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council recently responded to MB&S’s proposal rather cooly with this open letter.  For better or worse, this project appears to be on the political fast track.  MB&S seems to have a history of working with communities in their design of these types of projects but our opinions won’t count if they’re not expressed.  See you all there.

Welcome back — you’re needed. I live near the proposed HPTV development and am worried: other than making some developer richer, what will this project do for my already dense neighborhood? What will my council member leverage from the developer for the privilege of fucking up a neighborhood that already has problems? We can’t do anything about the eastside heat, will we acquiesce and allow ourselves traffic problems similar to that of the westside? Let’s hold Mr. Reyes’ feet to the fire on this one. See you there.

In a city that has never seen a population growth deficit in the past 100 years we can be sure that the city will continue to grow. To not plan for the future will cause more harm to Highland Park in the long run than planning sensibly around our transit lines now. Increase in density is going to happen in this city whether you oppose it or not and whether you build for it or not so you better begin planning for it now or end up like the traffic choked Westside where every side street is beginning to look like the 405 because of their opposition to sensible planning like stupidly killing the Subway to the Sea 40 years ago the same train that they now beg for.

Remember their are fantastic ways of making increased density pleasent while keeping the “feel” and charm of Highland Park.
