LA Taco is running a unique tournament this month in an attempt to determine Los Angeles’ best taco. Unlike NBC’s lame attempt in which they ran only two taco stands against each other, LA Taco has expanded the field to what it considers the top 16 spots in town. First up is Highland Park’s only representative in the tourney, our favorite, Tacos La Estrella. It’s up against Echo Park’s hipster haven, Taco Zone. I’ve eaten there once and while it’s not bad, it’s no substitute for La Estrella’s carnitas and red sauce. Plus, their name isn’t even Spanish… Just like Chicago, vote early and vote often.

i’ve always been surprised that people like la estrella better than el pique. those taco zone ladies are some of the friendliest in town and make a mean carnitas. sorry, taco zone should win this one.

first, are we really judging tacos by their truck name?! If that’s the case then one of the greatest trucks in LA taco’s jeesy’s would be called into question. Second, as a local highland parker, I hate to burst your bubble but la estrella doesn’t hold a candle to taco zone, in fact it can’t even compete with its neighbor el pique which serves up far superior tacos on a consistent basis.

I have nothing against El Pique or Taco Zone, but my dopamine levels rise at the slightest hint of La Estrella’s red sauce. I’ll grant you that La Estrella doesn’t have the highest quality asada, but their sauce could be poured over cardboard and I’d eat it. Unto each their own…

I love La Estrella. Maybe it’s not the best but I like it.
Tough battle though. Taco Zone is real good.

well put. i will agree with you that la estrella has to be better than a two hour wait for a fusion taco.
