Reward Offered for Figueroa Hit and Run

Mayor Villaraigosa has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to solving the hit and run death of Agapito Gaspar Nicolas, who was killed while crossing Figueroa in the crosswalk at Avenue 51just before 11 PM on March, 29th.
The Times put together a very nice piece on this, juxtaposing Nicolas’ deathwith the hit and run that killed a USC student earlier that morning, which resulted in a city-wide mobilization of the LAPD. Nicolas’ death meanwhile was left to one detective who is blindy searching through a sea of silver Jettas. Where is the outrage of our elected officials at Nicolas’ death? Why has our Mayor, City Councilman, and County Supervisor all played blind deaf and dumb with this while immediately offering over $200,000 and mobilizing the entire police department for an identical crime in South LA? It would be easy to throw down the race card, but all of our elected officials are Hispanic. So, are they just Pavlovian politicians foaming at the mouth when the media bell rings? Or do they simply take their constituency for granted since they run essentially unopposed? My solution is to refuse to vote for incumbents as complacency is worse than incompetence.
