Huell Howser in the Northeast

Channel surfing this afternoon, I ran across Huell Howser fawning all over Galcos Old World Grocery and their nostalgic stock of candy, soda, and beer. Unfortunately, the man with his own drinking game doesn’t have the video on his site, but he does have the tape of a visit to Polka. Enjoy California’s answer to Rick Steves.

I think Huell’s Galco’s visit was a few years ago, but I didn’t know that he’d visited Polka. And of course he visited Oxy for the first time a few months ago during Obamania.
There’s plenty of other Eagle Rock/Highland Park sights that would be obvious candidates for a Huell visit: the Lummis House, the rock itself (actually maybe he already did visit the little picnic area at the base), Casa Bianca, etc. But I think the best candidate is the Eagle Rock Shopping Mall. Many Angelenos are familiar with the shopping malls in Monterety Park, San Gabriel, and Alhambra that seem to have imported whole bits of China to Los Angeles. But I’ll bet not many have been to a shopping mall with such a large Filipino influence.

Kevin, Thanks for the reliable reminders. I’d like to point out two reasons why Huell Howser might be more productive than we are: 1. Reporting is his paid job. and 2. He is a superior human being to us…enjoy the spasm of posts before we turn into a summer travel blog again.
